Annual Congress

Aula Magna

Louvain-la-Neuve

President: Philippe Eloy

Invitation

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is an honor to invite you to the Annual Congress 2017 of the Royal Belgian Society for Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Surgery, which will take place on the 24th and the 25th November at the Aula Magna in Louvain-la-Neuve.

Louvain-la-Neuve is a planned city in the municipality of Ottignies - Louvain-la-Neuve, situated 30 km southeast of Brussels. It is easily to reach by car.  Moreover, a train extension has been built from the nearby station of Ottignies, which allows passengers to travel to or from Brussels in less than one hour.

This whole new city was built in 1971 to house the Francophone faculties of the Catholic University of Leuven. As a result of the linguistic quarrels that took place in the mid-sixties, the Catholic University was split into the Dutch language Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, which remained in Leuven and the Université Catholique de Louvain. Today the city houses as much as 11 faculties and no less than 20.000 students.

This city is an example of the "automobile under" type of New Pedestrianism. To a great extent, Louvain-la-Neuve still lives following the rhythms of the university. It is a very vivant city. It has cinemas, shops, restaurants, cafés, swimming pool, area for sports, museums (the famous one is the Hergé Museum) and of course several auditorium and rooms for courses, meetings, concerts ....

Louvain-la-Neuve is also known for the Louvain-la-Neuve Science Park, a large area created to develop cooperation between industry and the Université Catholique de Louvain.

Last but not least, on the fourth week of October, there is the “24 heures vélo”  (24-hour bike ride), the largest student party in Belgium.

The annual congress of our society will be organized in the Aula Magna, a very large and convivial area and ideal to welcome such a scientific event. This 2 days meeting will give you the opportunity to meet well-known Belgian speakers as well as foreign speakers, all experts in their fields.

The congress will offer sessions dedicated to ENT education, skull base surgery, the empty nose syndrome, the management of parotid tumors, laryngeal paresis after thyroidectomy, chronic rhinosinusitis, sialendoscopy, endoscopy of the middle ear and a pediatric session.  There will be a session on controversies in otology where a PowerVote system will be used to stimulate the debates.

The sessions on 'ethics and economy' and 'sleep-disorder breathing' have been granted accreditation points in Ethic and economy.

The programme covers an extensive list of topics and will give everybody the change to get information on various actual tricky themes in otorhinolaryngology.

I look forward to welcome you in Louvain-la-Neuve and do hope to see you numerous.

Warmest regards.

On Friday evening 24 November 2017, we like to welcome you for the congress dinner in the Loungeatude.

The chef, Pascal Marcin, who was awarded the Delta d'Or 2016, is the very embodiment of the latest generation of new chefs who respect the bounty of

the local land (the famous ‘terroir’ in French), the produce of which he crafts into pure, spontaneous gourmet wonders.

And where does the name ‘Loungeatude’ come from? If you look carefully, you will see the words ‘lounge’ and ‘eat’ – which are self-explanatory.

Then the ‘eatude’ at the end is almost the French word ‘étude’, which reflects the study of the great food and conversation we want you to enjoy…

It is entirely up to you!
